Introduction. The disinfection of dental impressions is essential to prevent cross-contamination; however, some disinfectants may affect the dimensional stability of irreversible hydrocolloids. Objective. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of three disinfectants (2% glutaraldehyde, 2.5% sodium hypochlorite, and 0.12% chlorhexidine) on the dimensional stability of Hydrogum 5 alginate. Materials and Method. An in vitro experimental study was conducted using impressions of a master model made with Hydrogum 5. The impressions were divided into three groups (n = 10): Group A1, immersed in 2% glutaraldehyde for 10 min; Group A2, immersed in 2.5% sodium hypochlorite for 10 min; and Group A3, immersed in 0.12% chlorhexidine for 10 min. After immersion, impressions were rinsed for 5 s, air-dried for 5 s, and poured immediately. The diameter, height, and width of the casts were measured with a digital vernier caliper, and dimensional differences from the master model were calculated. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test for normality and variance homogeneity tests; ANOVA and post-hoc comparisons were applied accordingly. Results. All mean height differences showed expansion, with the greatest in A2 (hypochlorite) and the smallest in A1 (glutaraldehyde). Width expansion was observed in A1 and A3. Variance homogeneity was confirmed for height but rejected for width. Tukey’s test showed significant differences (p = 0.05) in width between sodium hypochlorite and the other disinfectants. Conclusion. It was concluded that Hydrogum 5 exhibits slight dimensional variability after disinfection; however, 0.12% chlorhexidine and 2% glutaraldehyde produced minimal changes and acceptable clinical stability.
